Dilfer, retired NFL quarterback and current high school football head coach at Lipscomb Academy in Nashville, Tenn., was caught in a bit of controversy during the weekend when a video of him getting rough and shoving a player on the team went viral.
While the reaction to the video was split, Dilfer apparently felt the need to apologize, offering a lengthy mea culpa for the incident on Sunday:
Dilfer’s apology in full:
Some viewers of the video disagreed with Dilfer’s methods, while others pointed to the tough-love nature of football coaching as reason why Dilfer’s behavior was acceptable.
Regardless of feelings about Dilfer’s methods, the Mustangs shoved around Independence on Friday night, winning to the tune of 62-7 one week after beating Greater Atlanta Christian (Ga.) 76-7.
Wins like that will buy the Mustang head coach more than a bit of slack.
