The previous Toy Story films came out during the era of the N64 and PS one.  Though I know the N64 Toy Story game had some fans, I think it’s safe to say that the definitive Toy Story experience has yet to be delivered on consoles.  In fact, there really hasn’t been a great Pixar game to date, though Rainbow Studio’s first Cars game came close.

Now that we’ve moved to a generation of consoles that can really do justice to Toy Story’s visuals, the question becomes: how do you make a great Toy Story game?  The developers over at Avalanche Studios may have it figured out.  With a track record that includes the solid, if kid-focused, Tak and the Power of Juju games, the developer is taking a novel approach to Toy Story.  Yes, they are including a story mode, though it’s not really based on the new movie.  No, the exciting part is Toy Box, a sand-box game mode in which players are free to let their imaginations run wild.  Says Avalanche Software’s John Blackburn:

Sounds good, hu?  And the game is certainly looking good, too.  We may finally get our great Pixar game after all.  What do you guys think - is Toy Story 3: The Video Game set to break the curse of licensed games?  Will there be a Totoro hidden in the game?  And how pumped are you for the new movie?

Toy Story 3: The Video Game comes to play on the Xbox 360, PS3, PSP, Wii, and DS June 15th.
